Applying Labov‟s Narrative Structure to “My Mom had only one Eye”: Effective Narrative

The use of narrative is very fundamental in sharing the sense of the world. By using
Labov's (1972) analysis for narratives of personal experience, this paper will attempted
to analyze one of the celebrated narrative on internet named My Mom Had Only One eye,
in light of the following structural elements: (1) abstract, (2) orientation, (3) evaluations,
(4) narrative clauses, (5) result and (6) coda. This paper will also determine the validity
of the narrative selected for analysis on the basis of Labov’s model of structural analysis,
hence proving the work and effectiveness of the narrative
